Long ago God spoke to the fathers by the prophets at different times and in different ways. Hebrews 1:1
How many times have you started an opinion, thought or conversation with "Long ago..." We do so desiring to be well intended. We think we are being a help, because we have so much to share with others because "long ago" an event happened in my life. We have bruises to share, hurts to learn from, and experiences that reminded us that we should have listened to the wisdom of someone else when we were younger.
This difficult, often challenging book of Hebrews starts with..."Long ago." The opening lines of Hebrews places a theological bow around the beginning writings in Genesis and prophecies of the Old Testament to the arrival of the Messiah in John 1 and the announcement of Emmanuel "God with us"
This Christmas it is necessary to remember that "when the time came to completion, God sent His Son" (Galatians 4:4). The "time" that came was put into motion "long ago" It was done with you and I in mind. It was done for my salvation and your salvation. It was done so that we could cry out "Abba Father" (Galatians 4:6). It was done because God had a grand plan for all of creation. God's plan included the loving gift of His son given freely for anyone to believe and in turn receive eternal life (John 3:16). That is the gift of Christmas that began "long ago!"
Merry Christmas! Pastor Jeff
