Walking on Water
You may have heard it said before “Dead men don’t rise and men don’t walk on water!” Well of course that is correct! Men can not and will not; but, GOD CAN AND DID!
Consider how Peter conveyed this truth about our Lord and Savior!
For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 2 Peter 1:16
As followers of Christ we believe this eyewitness account. Not only do we believe it, but we share it, teach it and proclaim it! We take delight in playing the “games” and sharing with children how impossible it is to walk on water. Then we share with them…men can not do this but God can and did.
When we teach this biblical truth we are in essence sharing that we find encouragement in His plans, His prayers, His Power, His personhood, and His patience.
In recalling the often made statement “What goes around comes back around.” it also applies to the teaching of this moment in the life of Jesus.
As adults we need to be reminded that the accounts and teachings of the both Old and New Testament have application for us today, they are not just neat things to share with children that produce a “wow” factor type of response.
As we hear the account again while reading the text in Mark 6:45-56, remember that you have accepted this one that did walk on water. You have embraced the one that shared His plans, His Power, His personhood and His patience. He shared not just to provide for a good circle story time on the carpet. He did so for you and for I so that we could celebrate together and proclaim that He is indeed the “GREAT I AM!”
