Remember
Today, we gather to remember and reflect on the most significant event in the history of the Christian faith - the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. On this Good Friday, we stand in awe of the love that led Jesus to the cross, and we are reminded of the gravity of our sin and the cost of our salvation.
The crucifixion was not a random act of violence. It was the fulfillment of God's plan to redeem humanity from sin and death. Jesus willingly laid down His life as a sacrifice for our sins, taking upon Himself the punishment that we deserved. Through His death, we are offered forgiveness, reconciliation with God, and eternal life.
It's easy for us to forget the magnitude of what happened on the cross. We can become so accustomed to the story that it loses its power to move us. But let us not forget that the cross represents the ultimate act of love, sacrifice, and obedience. It is a symbol of the depths of God's love for us, a love that compelled Him to give His only Son.
The cross also reminds us of the cost of our salvation. Jesus endured physical and emotional suffering beyond anything we can imagine. He was beaten, mocked, and abandoned by His friends. He endured the weight of our sin and separation from God. He died a brutal death, the ultimate expression of His love for us.
As we contemplate the cross, we are confronted with our own sinfulness. We are reminded of the price that was paid for our salvation and the depth of God's love for us. It humbles us, convicts us, and challenges us to live a life worthy of the sacrifice that was made on our behalf.
But the cross is not the end of the story. We gather today, not just to mourn the death of Jesus but to celebrate His resurrection. It is through His resurrection that we are given hope for eternal life. Death no longer has the final say, and we can live in the assurance of God's love and grace.
So on this Good Friday, let us remember the sacrifice that was made for us. Let us contemplate the love that led Jesus to the cross, and let us respond with gratitude and humility. May the cross be a constant reminder of God's love and a source of hope and strength in our lives.
