Together: Applying God’s Word as a Church
As we approach the final message in our Together series, we turn to a crucial aspect of our faith: applying God’s Word in our daily lives. James 1:22 reminds us:
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
Faith isn’t just about listening to God’s Word; it’s about living it out in real, tangible ways. The early church in Acts 2:41-47 modeled this beautifully. Their faith wasn’t confined to knowledge—it was demonstrated through compassion, generosity, boldness, and encouragement. Together, they created a community where God’s love was visible to the world around them.
This Sunday, we’ll explore what it means to apply God’s Word as a church, focusing on five key ways we can live out our faith in community:
1. Serve with Compassion
Jesus’ ministry was marked by acts of compassion—healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and comforting the brokenhearted. As a church, we are called to follow His example. Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”
Serving with compassion means meeting the needs of those around us, both inside and outside the church. Whether it’s helping someone through a difficult season, providing for physical needs, or simply being present, these acts of service reflect the love of Christ. Together, we can create a culture of care that brings hope to those who are hurting.
2. Share the Gospel Boldly
Jesus commissioned His followers to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). Sharing the gospel isn’t optional—it’s a vital part of living out our faith. The early church grew as believers boldly proclaimed the good news, trusting that God would use their efforts to draw others into His kingdom.
As a church, we can create opportunities to share the gospel through relationships, community outreach, and meaningful conversations. The gospel is too transformative to keep to ourselves. Let’s encourage each other to share our faith boldly, knowing that God works through our obedience to change lives.
3. Love Unconditionally
Jesus commanded us to “love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another” (John 13:34). Loving unconditionally means extending kindness, grace, and forgiveness to everyone—especially those who are difficult to love.
The early church demonstrated this love through radical generosity and unity. When we love as Jesus loved, we show the world the truth of the gospel in action. Together, we can create a community where unconditional love transforms relationships and draws people closer to God.
4. Build Others Up Through Acts of Kindness
Romans 15:2 calls us to “please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.” Acts of kindness—whether big or small—have the power to encourage and uplift those around us.
The early church’s generosity and care for one another in Acts 2:44-45 showed the world what Christ’s love looks like. Today, our kindness can do the same. From writing a note of encouragement to lending a helping hand, these simple actions reflect God’s love and build a culture of hope within the church and beyond.
5. Encourage One Another to Stay Faithful
Faith is a journey, and we’re not meant to walk it alone. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds us to “stir up one another to love and good works” and to “encourage one another” as we see the day of Christ’s return drawing near.
Encouragement helps us stay faithful, especially during difficult times. When we pray for one another, celebrate victories, and hold each other accountable, we strengthen the church and grow in unity. Together, we can create a community where every member feels supported and inspired to keep pressing on in faith.
